Winter is a popular time to travel in the state of Indiana, with the December to March stretch particularly busy for travelers in the state. Between trips to warmer climates like Mexico and the Dominican Republic and holiday travels visiting family over Christmas, the airlines in Indiana keep extremely busy during this time.
With so much air travel occurring over the past few months, IndianaBets.com took a break from Indiana sports betting to see which are the preferred airlines in the state. We did this by using Google Trends to look over the search history of each airline over the past 90 days to fully encapsulate this busy timeframe. When people in Indiana want and need to travel the most, which carrier do they prefer?
While a clear No. 1 option did not separate itself from the pack, there were two airlines that stood above the rest. Ranking first was Delta Airlines, the legacy airline that has a home base of Atlanta. Delta is the country’s longest-running airline and runs more than 5,400 flights every day.
Coming just behind Delta is the aptly named American Airlines, an airline that calls Dallas home and transports more passengers yearly than any other airline, aided by its massive fleet of planes that is also the biggest in the country.
Ranking third is Spirit Airlines, followed by Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. Spirit didn’t rank quite as highly as Delta or American Airlines yet they still were able to establish an advantage over the next two, as Southwest and United trail the other three by a significant margin.
United leads the way in the country in terms of destinations serviced, but folks in Indiana clearly view it as a quantity over quality situation as they were nowhere near being the most-searched airline. Southwest also carries a large amount of passengers per year, especially domestically. However, their low-cost methods might put butts in the seats due to price, but they are nowhere near Indiana’s top choice.
There are several airline options in America for domestic and international travel and these five have established themselves near the top of the list due to their history as well as their current services. With the busy travel season coming to a close, residents of Indiana have established a clear standard for travel that they feel will be met by Delta and American Airlines over others, and carriers like Southwest and United simply receive business due to their price and location structures.
